Facility Hire

The Centre for Sustainable Living is ideal for community, corporate and government groups, tertiary and school use. It is an excellent venue for residential field trips, workshops, courses, small conferences and retreats.

Sustainability Features 
The CSL provides many demonstrations of sustainability in action, including passive solar design, solar panels for space heating, hot water and electricity generation, night cooling, onsite wastewater management systems reticulated to on site revegetation with local native plants, constructed wetland, use of local timbers and much more.

  • Three meeting rooms and a private
    consultation room.
  • The Sanctuary. A special retreat, this octagonal building is set apart from the main centre building. 
    It has been used for music events, meditation and more.
  • Accommodation. Large residential capacity
    (up to 50 beds in 14 dorm rooms).
  • Courtyard and BBQs.
  • Commercial kitchen available for accommodated guest and their caterers. Also available for hire.
  • Dining room (seating up to 70).
  • Wireless Internet and guest computer.
  • Audio-Visual equipment for hire (projector, electronic whiteboard, OHP, TV/DVD).
  • Photocopier and fax facilities.
  • Off-street parking.
  • Events management and assistance.
  • Local people with expertise for tailor made schedules of activities.
  • Conveniently located 15 minutes walk from the centre of the town of Denmark.

Accommodation
The west wing has six bunk-style dorm rooms, sleeping 22. There are eight bunk-style dorms in the east wing, sleeping 28. There is a minimum of two beds per room. The largest dorms have six beds. Sheets and towels are available for hire at $15 per person per stay.

Each wing has its own shower and separate toilet areas. The facilities near the west wing are allocated as men's facilities, with the women's at the eastern end of the building. This allocation can be changed to suit your needs. A small domestic laundry is available for use on request.

Kitchen-dining room
Our kitchen is a fully equipped commercial kitchen for self catering or external caterers. All cooking utensils, glassware, crockery and cutlery are available. A beautifully appointed dining room seats around 70 diners. More diners can be accommodated in nearby rooms or in the adjacent courtyard if required.

The Sanctuary

The Sanctuary is an enclosed octagonal building, on the same site as the Centre for Sustainable Living.

It has stunning architectural features, including passive and solar lighting, a native garden roof, floor and wall mosaics, stained glass windows and other artwork.

It provides an inspiring space for family gatherings, cultural events or environmental education and training for groups of up to 30 people, and is available for use by the general community, local groups and students.

Administration and Caretaker
The administration centre is staffed on a part time basis five days per week. Our live in caretaker can assist you in preparing rooms ahead of your event and can help meet your on-site needs out of hours. St John Ambulance first aid kits are available. Both the caretaker and the centre manager hold current first aid certificates. The Denmark hospital is five minutes drive away.

Disabled access
There is access for people with disabilities throughout the centre and a separate shower and toilet facility.
